The Hills are Clad in Purple

This is a pivotal song that we use in our production Maypoles to Mistletoe and it is part of the autumn period, so descriptive of the Autumn and past Summer. I learned this from the wonderful ladies of Stravaig a truly mesmerising Scottish group. At one time they gave me one of their T shirts which is a prized possession. Each time I sing it Stravaig are in my mind. Martyn

The Hills are Clad in Purple

The hills are clad in purple and the trees are clad in gold

The autumn wind is sighing for a beauty growing old

The grey grouse in the heather and the wild deer in the glen

I am longing for the springtime when I’ll see the sun again

The merry laughing summer with it’s mantle cloak of green

The trees and all the flowers such a beauty to be seen

And autumn gentle autumn with it’s laughing eyes of grey

Enrapt me in the twilight and stole my heart away.

The hills are clad in purple and the trees are clad in gold

The autumn wind is sighing for a beauty growing old

The grey grouse in the heather and the wild deer in the glen

I am longing for the springtime when I’ll see the sun again
