Always Back to You

It’s a paradox of the travelling musician. Almost as soon as you step out of your front door to embark on yet another probably financially parlous tour, you are more or less missing home already, and that feeling only grows stronger the longer the tour goes on. Yet the road is a powerful drug, and optimism combined with ego and the irresistible lure of new horizons drives you on. So many strange roads…and yet, in a sense, every road you take eventually leads you back home…..

Always Back to You.     by Eric Bogle

They say the hearts a lonely hunter always searching for a home

In every soul there is a hunger to find a place where it belongs

I came to this land as a stranger year by year the deep love grew

that’s why every road I travel leads always back to you.

____________

For I have heard the humpback singing the ocean filling with his song

I’ve heard the bell birds notes come ringing through a misty forest dawn

And I have seen the brolgas dancing on dreamtime land at Kakadu

that’s why every road I travel leads always back to you.

_______________

I’ve camped in my swag out in the desert been humbled by infinity

As the moon and stars in glittering consort turned desert sand to silver sea.

I felt my heart break with the beauty as a red sunset on Ularoo

that’s why every road I travel leads always back to you.

I drank with friends in bush and city laughed and sung all through the night

Their friendship is a flame that warms me their love and care a guiding light

For it’s a hard and lonely journey without friends to see you through

that’s why every road I travel leads always back to you

That’s why every road I travel leads always home to you.
